Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
91.5FM South Hadley: Liberated Radio.
See also: Breaking the chains of conformity.
And that means what to me?
The second definition the 2001 Microsoft Encarta College Dictionary gives for “liberate” as: To set somebody free from traditional socially imposed constraints such as those arising from stereotyping by gender or age.
WMHC has a relaxed block schedule, so depending on what time of day you tune in you are sure to hear something different - see? - and each show plays loads of new music from all it’s genre, and the rest of the shows’ format and production is up to the individual DJ.
WMHC is student run and non-commercial - our music decisions aren’t made on the basis of sponsor funding or demographics.
(the third definition, in case you were wondering, says “steal. to steal something.” it’s slang. that’s not really what we’re going for as much.)
Where can my band/label send music?
Check out the Contact Us page - find the genre your music falls into and send your music/promo stuff c/o the Music Director at:
WMHC South Hadley 91.5FM
Blanchard Campus Center
Mount Holyoke College

How can I get WMHC to DJ my party?
Contact our Promotions and Fundraising Director to check out the contract.
How can I get on-air?
So you wanna be a DJ?? WMHC trains DJs once every semester, so keep a look out for training times - next semester we’ll post them on the site as they come up. Training typically involves two weeks of interning, one classroom lecture to go over the manual, FCC regulations, and WMHC policy, and (both parts are mandatory to complete before taking the..) written and on-air exams. For more information you can contact our Program Director. AND - WMHC isnopen to the community! Five college students and area residents are welcome to train and apply for shows!
No - I mean like a one-shot deal.
Can I voice my opinions or get pieces of news on-air?
You can, and you should. Part of WMHC’s mission is to serve the community, and we’d like to get some dialogue going about happenings, lectures, sports and other issues that may arise for students and local residents. Contact our News and Talk Show Director to get some ideas rolling on how/when to get on air. If you’re a band coming through the area and would like to do an interview, contact the Music Director with whom you’ve been in contact.
How can I get my org’s info on events announced on-air?
You can send WMHC a Public Service Announcement (PSA) - drop it through campus mail to our Traffic Director. PSAs can be in copy format (what you would like announced on-air) or as the flier you’ve posted with the info for the event. If you are off-campus, please address it to the station.
ATTENTION: Traffic. Sorry, we do not do PSAs for local/corporate businesses.
Concert Promoters: please contact one of our Music Directors.
Where can I buy WMHC tees?
WMHC t-shirts are online and on sale at all our events, for $10 — a small price to pay for liberated hotness. check them out here.
I want to donate DJ equipment, who do I contact?
Our Chief Engineer would love to hear from you! We are currently working on upgrading a lot of our equipment. Donations are tax-deductible and we would love you forever.
I used to be a DJ, can we hang out?
Whether you were a pioneer in getting WMHC on the airwaves back in 1951, you led WMHC through the 1970s, or you just recently graduated from MHC and your WMHC involvement, we more than appreciate everything that you did to make the station what it is today. Hopefully, you feel the same about what WMHC was able to give to you.
If you are planning a visit to campus and would like to see the station, please contact the General Manager or Assistant General Manager to schedule a visit. We’d love to meet you!
If you have any pictures of students and WMHC from when you were a DJ, please send them or drop them off to the Mount Holyoke Archives.
If you would like some WMHC merchandise, check out our Merch page for t-shirts and more!
If you would like to make a donation to WMHC, it would be greatly appreciated! All donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to WMHC-FM, Business Manager, 9010 Blanchard Student Center, South Hadley MA, 01075. Thank you in advance for your contribution!
